Natural CO2 Generator
By George Francisco
For indoor gardening, CO2 enrichment can be very beneficial. CO2 is the life giving gas to plants, just like oxygen is life giving to animals and humans. By increasing the co2 in a plants growing area, plant production can be increased by as much as 50%, and plants are much healthier as well. The theory is that millions of years ago, there was about 5 times the amount of co2 in the atmosphere, and plants grew much larger, and healthier. So by enriching the plants by as much as 5 times the normal rate, they can grow much quicker and larger as well. By the way, thats why the dinosaurs were so large, because of the oxygen levels produced by plants getting so much co2. Most of the time, the indoor garden is isolated and airtight so as to let the co2 levels build up. Often this is done with a grow box, grow closet, or small grow room. There are several types of co2 generators on the market. Some use bottled co2, and simply have a valve to release it in slow amounts. Another burns propane to generate co2. A very small number of others, use natural ingredients to generate co2, and no fossil fuel is used in these types of co2 generation systems, so if you are going green, one of the latter systems may be for you. If you are a hobby indoor gardener, then search for "co2 generators" on the net, and see which system could be right for you. Co2 is not all bad, and the earth could not exist as we know it without it. |
